Cuttack: While the cease-work agitation by the junior doctors of Urology department at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack entered its ninth day, the medicos resorted to relay hunger strike today.

Four students, including an undergraduate student and DM MCh student, will continue the hunger strike for 12 hours from 9 AM to 9 PM, said an agitating PG student.

The medicos have been staging protest demanding suspension of the head of the Urology department (HoD), Duteswar Hota for allegedly harassing them mentally and physically. They alleged that Hota has been engaging medical students in his private clinic and exploiting them for his own interests.

The agitators further threatened that they will continue their stir unless the Urology HoD is suspended.

Extending support to the stir by SCB medicos, as many as 150 house surgeons and 160 senior resident doctors of SCB have taken leave en masse. On Monday, PG students in VIMSAR joined duty wearing black badges.

Meanwhile, the four-member inquiry team has submitted its report including audio and video clips to the State government.

SCB Superintendent Prof Shyama Kanungo said the State Government has asked the hospital authorities to pacify the students and tell them to withdraw their agitation.

"The Dean has also forwarded the inquiry committee report to the State Government which will look into the matter," she added.

Despite several attempts, the Urology HoD was not available for comments.
