Bolangir: A probe has today started into the shocking incident in which a tribal girl was beaten up and her hair cut off by a villager in Pardhiapali under Bolangir Sadar police limits on the petty allegation of stealing a mobile phone.

Bolangir sub-collector today visited the village to conduct an on-spot investigation into the atrocity against the tribal girl.

“Though victim was not present in her house, we have discussed and collected some information from her family members. We will further examine the girl to ascertain the truth. Stern action would be taken against those found guilty in connection with the incident,” said subcollecor Bimal Chandra Mohanty.

Though the incident occurred on March 6, the victim’s family had lodged FIR in connection with the torture yesterday.

As per the FIR, the victim used to take tailoring lessons from one of her neighbour Byasa Pradhan.

Suspecting that the girl had stolen his mobile phone, Byasa along with other family members allegedly assaulted, cut-her off, made her wear a garland of chappals and paraded her on street.
