Probe ordered into assault of elderly inmates at Asha Kiran shelter home

Bhubaneswar: Asha Kiran, a Khurda based shelter home is again in news for the wrong reasons. A probe has been ordered after a video capturing the torture of elderly inmates of the shelter home went viral.

In the video, Hemant Sastri, the caretaker of the shelter home is seen assaulting few inmates with pliers. At present, 23 inmates including 12 mentally retarded and 11 senior citizens are staying at Asha Kiran shelter home.

After the video of such atrocities went viral, a city based voluntary organisation took up the issue with the collector and demanded stern action against the accused.

“Strict action should be taken against the culprit and all the inmates should be immediately shifted and rehabilitated elsewhere,” said Social activist, Namita Pal.

However, the caretaker has refuted the allegations levelled against him.

Taking note of the incident, Khurda ADM has ordered a probe in connection with the incident and the inmates have also been shifted to another place.
