Nayagarh: The health department has launched a probe following side effects developed by patients at the district headquarters hospital allegedly after blood transfusion. According to sources, the Health department has seized 170 units of blood from the blood bank. Moreover, an expert team has arrived from Bhanjanagar to examine the causes of the side effects. Sources said that the reasons behind the complications developed by patients will be established after complete probe.

At the same time, the 2 thalassemia patients who received blood have been shifted to Bhubaneswar.

Notably, 7 children suffering from thalassemia and 3 other patients reportedly developed side effects after blood transfusion.

“We have been asked not to use the existing units for transfusion. I have asked an experienced blood bank officer who has arrived from Bhanjanagar to examine each unit of blood,” said Nayagarh CDMO Rajlaxmi Mohanty.
