Phulbani: The probe into the shocking death of five innocent villagers during an alleged anti-Maoist operation in Malapanga forest near Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal district by the special investigating team (SIT) formed for the purpose will formally begin today.

According to sources, the six-member SIT formed by the State Police has arrived at Baliguda for the probe.

The SIT team, led by Mahendra Pratap, ADG, Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC), arrived at the district police headquarters yesterday afternoon and held a meeting with Kandhamal SP Pinak Mishra.

Sources said the team will visit Baliguda and get detailed information about the incident from the IIC. The team is also scheduled to talk to the Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel involved in the operation on July 8.
