Cuttack: The commissionerate police, investigating into the murder of Kirti Ranjan Masant, a Home Guard of Jagatpur police station, is hopeful of tracking down the assailants very soon.

A team of senior police officers, led by police commissioner YB Khurania and Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, today visited the spot in Mahanadi river bed near Paschimakachha village under Jagatpur police limits for an on-the-spot investigation. During the visit, Khurania interacted with the family members of the deceased.

Talking to media persons later, he said the investigation is in a preliminary stage.

“The post mortem was conducted yesterday. We are waiting for the report. We are presently interrogating some persons who had acquaintances with the deceased. I hope that the police would be able to find out the cause of the murder in 3-4 days,” he added.

The police commissioner, however, said it was a pre-planned murder. “We are investigating into various angles of this case,” he added.

Notably, the body of Kirti Ranjan with multiple injuries was found from an area of Mahanadi river bed near Paschimakachha village in the morning yesterday.

The family members later lodged a complaint in the Jagatpur police station alleging that some miscreants had dumped the body of Kirti Ranjan after killing him elsewhere.
