Sambalpur: As per the direction of the Sambalpur district Collector, a special team has started an investigation into the cause of the major fire mishap that broke out in the main market 'Gol bazar' here destroying properties worth lakhs of rupees.

The investigation team would enquire on whether the fire mishap occured due to short circuit or it was man-made. Besides, the district administration has already estimated the amount of properties destroyed in the mishap.

Sambalpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bimalendu Ray informed that properties worth Rs 50 lakh have been destroyed in the fire. As per official estimation, 23 shops and 190 Pindis were gutted in the fire.

Notably a fire broke out at around 4 am and engulfed a large portion of the market on Tuesday. It took three hours for the fire tenders to bring the flame under control.
