Jajpur: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) today filed a police complaint in connection with the shocking incident in which a newborn girl was rescued after being buried alive in a compost dump at Shyamsundarpur in Jajpur district.

A case under sections 307 and 317 of the IPC has been registered basing on the complaint filed by the CWC while Jenapur police have started probe into the incident.

The infant was rescued by a group of villagers after spotting her feet moving above the ground at around 9:30 am on Saturday.

It is suspected that the unwanted newborn girl was abandoned and left to die by her own parents.

The baby, wrapped in a cloth, was buried upside down and was rescued in a critical condition. Later, she was taken to a nearby Community Health Centre and later admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
