Prisoner commits suicide inside Malkangiri jail

Malkangiri: An inmate of Malkangiri sub jail allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside the jail on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Muka Madkami of Baidghata area under Kalimela police station.

According to sources, Madkami hanged himself with a towel inside the latrine in the jail.

Notably, police had arrested Madkami two months ago suspecting him to be a Maoist. He was arrested on charges of working with Kalimela Dalam.

"Police has started investigation into the matter. We are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the circumstances under which he died," the local Inspector in Charge (IIC) said.
