Bhubaneswar:  Anjali Dehury, the teacher of Haripur Primary School was murdered for objecting to an 'illicit relationship' between the killer and a minor girl, police said on Saturday. This was revealed after the police arrested the killer Kunu Jena from Jatni area in Khurda district. A motorcycle and a bamboo stick which was used in the crime, has also been recovered.

Addressing a press conference, IG Soumendra Priyadarshi informed that the accused Kunu had brutally beaten Anjali to death with the help of bamboo stick when she was returning home from school on January 4.

"The accused Kuna was having an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law which Anjali had come to know. Fearing that Anjali might reveal this to his wife, Kuna decided to eliminate her," said Priyadarshi.

Senior officials said that Kunu after killing Anjali had escaped to Surat in Gujarat.

Special teams were closely tracking the movements of the accused and finally managed to nab him from Jatni area after 16 days  of the gruesome murder.

The SIM card of the deceased teacher, blood stained clothes of the accused and other items have also been seized.
