Jagatsinghpur: Police today detained five persons in connection with the alleged murder of a woman whose body was recovered from Dhalatangagada forest range under Raghunathpur police limits of Jagatsinghpur district.

The woman has been identified as Siku Sutar, daughter of Ajay Sutar, from Anolipatana village under Kujang police station here.

Soon after the body was recovered, Raghunathpur police began investigation into the matter. Reportedly on Thursday night, a team raided Mamata Clinic in Jagatsinghpur and detained one doctor Haramani Maharana along with three other staff of the clinic suspecting their involvement in the murder.

Siku's father has also been detained and investigation is on to find out the truth behind the murder, police sources said.

Police further stated that the woman was seven-month pregnant and it is suspected that she has been murdered after an alleged attempt to abort the child. "We have detained a few staff from the clinic and are interrogating them. A probe is on and we have reached all the sources to find out what actually transpired," said Tirtol SDPO Sibasankar Mallick.

However, Mallick said that it has not been confirmed whether it is a case of honour killing, adding that the woman's body was handed over to the family for cremation.
