Puri/Balasore: Tension prevailed in Alarnath Vocational College at Brahmagiri after two groups of students clashed during election campaigning here on Monday.

According to sources, two students of one group got critically injured in the fight after the rival group stabbed them with sharp weapons.

Both of them are undergoing treatment at a hospital and their condition is reportedly stable, sources said.

Following the attack, enraged students blocked the road by burning tyres outside the college.

Soon, police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

"One student, Kanhu Charan has been attacked with knife and sustained severe injuries in his left thigh. The other student Surya Bahadur has been inflicted with head injury. Both of them have been shifted to Puri Medical. A case has been registered. Efforts are on to nab the students involved in the attack," said Puri DSP Alekh Chandra Pahi.

Meanwhile in Gopalpur College under Bahanaga block of Balasore district, students clashed with the Principal and other employees demanding students' union election in the college.

Apprehending any untoward incident in the college, Prinicipal, teachers and other employees staged a dharna after they failed to control the student agitation. It may be mentioned here that the authorities had cancelled students' union elections for this year after unrest continued to surface on the campus.
