Bhubaneswar: Ahead of student's union elections, tension erupted at Ramadevi Women's university over a clash between two groups today while Utkal University witnessed similar scene after the poll posters of Congress-backed candidates were tore down allegedly by rival groups.
A clash occurred between two groups at the State’s first women's university after a presidential candidate was found having academic arrears (back papers). The presidential aspirant-Tanmayee and her supporters alleged that it was a deliberate attempt of the varsity authorities, backed by Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), whose party is in power.
"I was in BCJD for last three years. I know what they (BCJD leaders) can do", Tanmayee said.
Alleging that BCJD district vice-president Amarjit Gouda and varsity's ex-president Swasti Priya Das Nayak have persuaded the university staff to do such things on the exam paper, she said it could not be ascertained that the exam papers are evaluated properly what is claimed by the authorities till the copies of the papers are received.
"I want to ask our ex-president Swasti Priya Das Nayak that why she took my exam roll number which is confidential?" Tanmayee questioned.
Everything was well when Tanmayee was in their (BCJD) group but when a larger section wanted her to contest the election independently, trouble started since then, a friend and supporter of the presidential aspirant said. She alleged that they have left no-stones unturned to ensure that Tanmayee’s nomination is rejected.
Sources in the university said there is nothing wrong in the evaluation process.
Similarly, a group of student gheraoed the office of vice-chancellor at Utkal University alleging the poster of their candidate was torn down by the rival parties.
The supporters of the Congress-backed candidate alleged the authorities have not taken any action against the group of students who have torn the banners and posters.
