Pradeep Majhi resigns from Odisha Congress vice-president post

Bhubaneswar: The eerie silence in the Congress camp amidst the clatter of BJD and BJB was broken after former MP of the party Pradeep Majhi created a flutter by resigning from his post of the Vice President of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Friday.

Known to be a strong tribal leader, Majhi resigned from his post by taking the onus of party’s drubbing in the recently concluded Panchayat polls in the State.

“I was also entrusted with the responsibility to ensure that the party does well in the Panchayat elections. Sadly, our party’s performance was not good. Hence, on moral grounds, I have resigned from the OPCC post,” said Majhi.

Majhi’s decision has further brought to surface the internal disturbances plaguing the Congress.

“Massive changes and restructuring of the party is required which if delayed will prove costly. The organisation should be built by taking into consideration the people who are with the party and working for the party,” said Congress legislature party chief whip, Taraprasad Bahinipati.

Prior to the Panchayat polls, some voices within the party were heard demanding OPCC president Prasad Harichandan’s ouster. However, the party’s high command put its faith on Prasad who led the party into the Panchayat polls. However, following dismal performance of the party in the polls, the voices are loud and clear demanding a change in leadership.

“When the house is totally destroyed and in disarray, amends should be made and steps should be taken to restore it,” said senior leader Hemanand Biswal.
