Bhubaneswar: Power consumers in the State could face tough times ahead as two power producing companies have urged the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to hike in power tariff.

A public hearing will be organised today and carried out for the next 18 days before the OERC for determining the power tariff for consumers for this year.

On the first day of the hearing, the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) will keep their statements. The State Advisory Committee will hold a meeting on February 20.

The OERC had rejected the demands of the distribution companies to increase the power tariff last year as the Consumers’ Federation had strongly opposed the tariff hike proposal at the public hearing.
