Post Master held for misappropriating savings worth Rs 45 lakh in Bhawanipatna

Bhawanipatna: Post Master of Sub Post Office, Bhawanipatna Stadium, Aditya Majhi was nabbed by Bhawanipatna Town Police today on charges of misappropriating savings worth Rs 45 lakh of 61 depositors.

According to reports, Majhi had siphoned off the money of unaware depositors by taking advantage of his position. He was absconding since 2016 after the matter came to light. A case in this regard had been lodged at the Bhawanipatna Town Police Station based on which police had set a trap and was successful to nab him from his paternal house in Jaipatna.

“Aditya Majhi was working as Post Master at Stadium Sub Post Office where he had misappropriated savings of some depositors in 2016. The matter came to light during internal audit of the post office and a case 02/2016 was registered against him. During investigation into the case it was found that he had misappropriated deposits amounting to nearly Rs 50 lakh,” informed Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Town Police Station Surendra Nath Sathpathy.

“He was absconding since then and was nabbed from his village during raids at various places,” added the IIC.

Meanwhile, police have forwarded Majhi to court. Though the money has not been recovered his bank accounts have been frozen. Police has also requested the court to confiscate properties of Majhi.
