Bhubaneswar: The basement of a star hotel in Bhubaneswar was sealed today by Odisha Fire Services as part of a sealing drive at commercial establishments that have failed to comply with fire safety norms. It is the second hotel in Bhubaneswar that faced similar action from the department within a month.

Marriage and other functions were held in the basement in violation of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (Planning and Building Standards) Regulations, 2008, informed sources

Earlier on Monday, 13 teams of Odisha Fire Services had conducted raids on 26 such establishments including shopping malls, hotels and jewellry stores in the Capital city to check adherence to Odisha Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Rules, 2017. While some buildings lacked no-objection certificates (NoC), others did not have adequate fire fighting equipments and smoke detectors in place.

As per reports, the Odisha Fire Services had sent notices to the establishments that had violated the fire safety norms. Today, the sealing was carried out by virtue of the notice served to the establishment.
