Rayagada: Healthcare services in villages located in Niyamgiri hills under Kalyansinghpur block are in a shambles because of poor road connectivity.

As a result, patients are carried in slings and bamboo raft for more than 20 kms to Kalyansinghpur hospital at regular intervals.

Though the Rayagada district administration has launched bike ambulance services in the area, residents are yet to make use of it.

Bano Kulisiki, a patient's husband, said "My wife, who has been suffering from fever, had to be carried to the hospital in a sling. Due to poor road condition, ambulance could not reach Kadraka Bandeli village.

Sitaram Kadraka, another resident of Kadraka Bandeli, stated, "We have heard about bike ambulance in our area, but we have never seen any patient availing the services."

On the other hand, Kalyansighpur BDO Anup Panda accepted that patients are being carried in slings up to the hospital. He assured that all weather road will be laid to the villages soon.

Panda further stated, "I have already visited the area and after holding talks with the Rayagada district administration a proposal will be sent for road construction in the area."
