Bhubaneswar: Fresh poll violence erupted at several parts of Odisha during the ongoing 4th phase Panchayat polls which began this morning.

Cases of violence were reported from Palluru village in Narayanpatna block in Koraput district, Bijepur block of Bargarh district and Bonaigarh block in Sundargarh district on Sunday.

A murder case was reported from Palluru village in Narayanpatna block of Koraput district. Political rivalry was suspected to be the main reason behind the alleged murder, sources said. Cases have been registered against 19 persons in Narayanpatna police station in this connection.

In another incident, a group of miscreants barged into the house of a Sarpanch candidate from Bhatigan village of Bijepur block and beat up his family members. They also reportedly ransacked his properties and damaged his vehicles.

Following the incident, the Sarpanch candidate has filed a complaint at the local police station.

In Bonaigarh block of Sundargarh district, tension prevailed after hundreds of voters could not exercise their franchise as their names did not figure in the voter list. The locals had an altercation with the Sub-Collector.

The state had also witnessed such incidents reported from Bolangir and Balasore district on Saturday.

An alleged murder case was reported from Budhimuhan village under Sadar Police limits in Bolangir. The body of Rohit Pradhan a resident of Karlapita village and a polling agent of a local sarpanch candidate was found from inside Patara forest.

In Pandarapaita village under Bolangir Sadar Police station limits, a group of people led by the winning Panchayat Samiti candidate torched the farm house of the newly elected Sarpanch Baladeb Sahu including his two four-wheelers and five bikes. In retaliation, Sahu along with his supporters allegedly assaulted some women of the village. Anticipating further violence, the district administration has deployed police force in the village to ward off any untoward incident.

In Balasore district, at least 15 persons were injured in a group clash in Bahanaga block. Sources said the incident took place when the rival group clashed with another group of supporters of the newly elected sarpanch Mamata Das during a rally.
