Sundergarh: A police van was set ablaze after a group clash turned violent in Patkurabahal village under Kutra block here late last night.

Several bikes and vehicles including a car and dumper, were also set on fire. Besides, four shops, including a medicine shop, were also torched.

As per reports, two groups got into an argument that soon escalated to both sides pelting stones and vandalising property.

Casualty in the clash?

Five persons have been injured in the clash. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital in the district.

The condition of all the injured is reportedly stable.

Why did the clash break out?

Reports say that heated exchange of words took place between the two groups over collection of donation in the region.

Amid the tension, someone started pelting stones and the whole situation went out of control.

Police rushed to the spot after getting information but the violent mob set the police van ablaze too.

However, police said that the actual reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 10 persons after registering cases against them in connection with the incident.

“Investigation is on to find out the cause and people behind of the clash,” said a police official.
