Nabarangpur:  In a dastardly act, Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Dabugaon police station in Nabarangpur district allegedly destroyed the full grown maize crop of a farmer riding on his police vehicle at Gatiguda village under Umerkote police station on Thursday.

According to sources, a farmer of Gatiguda Pintu Bisoi had cultivated maize crop on an encroached government land. The land was blocking the road to a nearby plot that belonged to father-in-law of Dabugaon IIC Subash Chandra Raiguru.

Raiguru had earlier threatened Bisoi to remove the barricade on the encroached land but as the latter did not pay heed,  the IIC arrived at the spot with some staff in a police vehicle and reportedly ran over the crop. Maize crop cultivated at around 30-40 decimal land was completely destroyed.

While the incident was recorded in a mobile camera, the IIC has denied the allegation.

Talking to OTV Raiguru said, "I deny the allegation, the visual is edited. I was involved in a gambling raid in Dabugaon yesterday and was on duty wearing uniform. Pintu Bisoi is a ganja trader, when I started tracking him he took such a step to blackmail me. He is involved in illegal ganja trafficking and action will be taken against him after getting evidence."

Umerkote SDPO Gopinath Manipatra said, "We have not received a formal complaint about the incident but I have received information through other sources. I came to know that Dabugaon IIC had visited his father-in-law's land and details about the owner of the land will be known after investigation. Both the parties will be heard before taking any action."
