Nayagarh: A joint team of Vigilance officials from Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Nayagarh zones today caught Binod Das, principal of Police Training School (PTS), red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 75,000 from the in-charge ASI of the school.

The principal was later arrested.

Talking to media persons, Haramohan Pati, Vigilance DSP of Nayagarh said Das had been demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh every month from ASI Ramakrushna Satpathy, who was in charge of the mess of the school. But as he refused to oblige him, he threatened to transfer him from the school to elsewhere.

“Finding no other alternative, Satpathy agreed to give him a bribe of Rs 75,000 and at the same time informed the Vigilance wing. Acting on the complaint, a joint team of Vigilance led by the DSPs of Khurda, Bhubaneswar and myself conducted a surprise raid on the official residence of Das and caught him red-handed while he was accepting Rs 75,000 from Satpathy and arrested him later,” Pati said.

He also said Das was later brought to Bhubaneswar for interrogation.

Sources said following his arrest, the Vigilance officials have raided Das’s paternal house at Chandipura village in Jagatsinghpur district.
