Police SI shot at, injured by ganja smugglers

Jeypore: A sub-inspector of Machkund Police station here was injured critically after some ganja smugglers opened fire at the police van near Jalaput village in Koraput district last night.

SI Pradeep Nayak sustained grievous injuries on neck and was admitted to district headquarters hospital.

The incident took place after a team of police led by IIC Bimal Mahalik was returning from Jalaput after night patrol while the criminals opened four rounds of fire at the police vehicle. However, no retaliation was made by the police. Around five police personnel were in the van, Koraput SP said.
