Police SI attacked by notorious criminal & family members

Jeypore: In a shocking incident, a policeman was allegedly attacked by a criminal during a raid in his house here in Jeypore of Koraput district on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the IIC of Jeypore Town Police station, Siba Sankar Sahu was allegedly attacked by a notorious criminal of the town Jeet Mahuria and his family members while Sahu was raiding his house.

The police official sustained serious injuries in his hands and face after a face-off with the criminal and his father and sisters, sources added.

Asked about the incident, Sahu said,” Two teams had gone for the raid. We caught Jeet while he was trying to escape from the back door. However, his two sisters, father along with Jeet attacked me from behind and then the entire family made efforts to help Jeet flee but in vain.”

Meanwhile, Koraput SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said Jeet has been detained and taken into police custody. “A separate FIR has been filed after this incident. Action will be taken as per law against all persons involved in the attack and for opposing police personnel to perform their duties,” said Singh.
