Police-public clash on busy Bhubaneswar road over youth's death

Bhubaneswar: Vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the busy Patia-Jaydev Vihar road as tension prevailed after locals clashed with police over the death of a youth under mysterious circumstances in the Niladri Vihar Housing Board area.

Claiming that the youth was murdered, family members of the deceased, identified as Dhaneswar Das, and locals blocked the road by placing the dead body on road demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

When police reached the spot and tried to disperse the crowd, the agitators clashed with police. Sources informed that stones were also hurled in the process and when the situation went beyond control, police had to resort to mild lathicharge.

Family members of Das alleged that while he was sleeping at his brother’s office, some miscreants called the youth out and murdered him.

The police said investigation is on in the case. However, they did not rule out the chances of an accident.
