Baripada: Vigilance sleuths today arrested the IIC and ASI of Kaptipada police station in Mayurbhanj district while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person to solve a group clash case.

As per sources, a group clash had erupted on September 29 this year in which police, during its investigation, seized four bikes and registered cases against 16 persons involved in the clash.

Later, IIC Brajabandhu Nayak and ASI Rabinarayan Suara of Kaptipada PS allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 to solve the matter and remove their names from the case.

However, after one Tapan Barik refused to agree to the amount, police reportedly settled the deal at Rs 20,000.

"Yesterday when I reached with all others named in the case, police asked us to come with Rs 40,000 otherwise we would not even be granted bail once we get arrested. We said we don't have money. They then finalised a price of Rs 20,000. With no option left, I informed the vigilance department about the matter," said Tapan Barik, the complainant.

Acting on a tip-off, vigilance caught the duo red handed and court forwarded to Baripada.

“The IIC and ASI had demanded Rs 10,000 each and we have caught them red handed. Hand wash was found positive and we have recovered the money from both. A case has been registered and investigation has been initiated. The duo was court forwarded to Baripada," said Balasore Vigilance DSP Santosh Samantaray.
