Bolangir: An exchange of fire took place between the Red rebels and security forces today morning inside the Chandili forests at Lathore of Bolangir district. However, no one has been injured.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of District Voluntary Forces (DVF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted raids inside the forest area to trace the Maoists’ hideout.

Seeing the security forces, the Maoists first opened fire and in retaliation police fired at them. The exchange of fire reportedly lasted for more than two hours following which the extremists fled.

The incident occurred during a combing operation by the security forces in the Chandili forest area after being tipped off by sources, said Bolangir SP S Subramani.

However, no casualties have been reported so far in the exchange of fire, neither any Maoist belongings could be traced. Search operation is still on in the forest, added the SP.
