Bolangir: District SP K Siva Subramani today suspended police driver Rakesh Mohanty in connection with a hit and run case. Mohanty had allegedly hit a person on Friday night while driving in an inebriated condition.

As per reports, a daily wage labourer Ganga Chandan was fixing lights on a Durga Puja Mandap in Tulasi Nagar in Balangir town when Mohanty, driving a Tata Sumo of Balangir Reserve Police under influence of alcohol, hit him before ramming the vehicle into two electric poles.

Injured Chandan was rushed to hospital by locals as he had sustained serious injuries on his head. The locals had demanded action against the driver and compensation for the victim.

Official proceedings were initiated against Mohanty after the news was published by OTV.
