Phulbani: With an effort to bring a change, the Odisha police have called upon Maoists to discard violence and include themselves in the mainstream society.

The Kandhamal district police have put posters at several areas in the district asking the red rebels to surrender to lead a normal life in future. The posters mentioned that CPI (M) Central Committee members Jampanna and his wife have surrendered before police.

Jampanna headed ultras in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Boudh districts. After his surrender, the Maoist bodies have weakened.

In the posters, the police assured the ultras that they would be provided with all kind of Government benefits if they surrender.

“When a top leader like Jampanna of the CPI (M) felt that naxals are now directionless and surrendered before police, youths involved in various Maoist activities in Odisha should realise the same and stay away from violence. We request them to think about their future and surrender,” Kandhamal SP Utkal Ranjan Das.
