Berhampur: Police on Thursday busted a gang allegedly involved in betting during the IPL cricket matches and arrested as many as seven persons in Odisha's Ganjam district.

The seven gang members were reportedly operating from a mobile shop at Aska in the district, said Pradeep Kumar Mahapatra, Additional SP Ganjam, adding, "Huge cash to the tune of Rs 10,9,800 in cash, 14 mobile phones, some notebooks and calculators used for betting were seized from the possession of the accused persons.

A police team in Aska, acting on a tip off, raided the shop where the gang was operating and arrested the seven persons, including the prime accused Niranjan Sabat, he said.

Among arrested are Rabindra Mohanty, Brahmananda Panda, Sushant Kumar Biswal, Aman Kumar Behera, B. Mukesh Patra and the owner of the mobile shop, Rameshwar Lenka, he added.

Earlier on April 13, police had busted a gang involved in betting from Bada Bazara area in Berhampur town and arrested three persons.
