Bhubaneswar: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today served a notice to four states, including Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana over the contentious Polavaram project.

The NGT today gave a deadline of two weeks to the four states to present their views on whether a hearing should take place on the Polavaram issue. The tribunal gave the ultimatum while hearing a petition filed by a voluntary organization of Telangana.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu to stop all construction work on the Polavaram project till the issues are resolved.

In a letter to Naidu, Patnaik claimed that the construction work being undertaken by Andhra Pradesh is in clear violation of the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal (GWDT) Award and is also not conforming to the national standards and norms.
