Bhubaneswar: Forest officials arrested a person on charges of poaching deer inside Chandaka wildlife sanctuary on the outskirts of capital city here on eve of Utkal Divas.

As per sources, the arrestee identified as Jyotiranjan Mohanty, a resident of Daruthenga village on the outskirts of the city here had gone to the forest along with two of his friends on a motorcycle late on Friday night.

They were looking to hunt a wild animal for the purpose of feasting on the eve of Utkal Divas when the forest officials who were patrolling the Chudang area inside the sanctuary spotted them. While Mohanty, was caught, his other two accomplices manage to flee the spot.

A 12-bore gun, three live bullets, explosives and a tiger claw pendant were seized from Mohanty’s possession.
