Bhubaneswar: With the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) deciding to implement the new examination pattern for Plus II students in line with CBSE format for the upcoming examinations scheduled to begin from March 6, 2018, students today protested the decision of the board to conduct both papers of Biology in a single sitting.
Hundreds of students today staged a demonstration before the council office demanding withdrawal of the decision to conduct paper 'A' (Botany) and paper 'B' (Zoology) of Biology subject in a single day.
Students alleged that since the syllabus for both the papers is huge it would not be easy to prepare for both of them and it would jeopardize their chances to score higher marks.
"Earlier the examinations for both the papers used to happen on different days. We want that the examination for both the papers be done as per the old pattern," said a student lamenting that "Last year examinees had appeared each paper with a duration of two hours but this year we only have three hours for both the papers combined," he said.
On the other hand, the board authorities have assured that the grievances of the students will be looked into very soon.
"The chairman will be apprised and the matter will be put forth before exam committee following which necessary steps will be taken," CHSE Deputy Controller, Prabodh Kumar Panda said.
The annual state Plus II examination will begin from March 6, 2018 and will conclude on March 29. The theory examinations of Science and Commerce streams will begin first while exams of Arts stream will commence a day later.
The practical examinations will be held from January 25 till February 5.
