Malkangiri: Authorities of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) have stopped plying of buses in the Malkangiri district and Jeypore of Koraput district keeping the call of Maoists to observe the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week from today.

A local official of the OSRTC said, "Local and long route buses have been stopped due to the PLGA Week observance call by Maoists from today to avoid damage to the vehicles. A total of 25 buses have been taken off the roads."

Businessmen have also shut their shops in Maoist-affected areas due to the PLGA week call.

On the other hand, police have tightened security in Malkangiri district apprehending Maoists violence. Blockings have been set up by the police personnel at different places to frisk vehicles. Jawans of BSF, SOG and DVF stationed in Maoist-affected areas have intensified their operations.

Meanwhile, posters of Maoist organisations asking people especially youths to observe the PLGA week have been found at different places of the cut-off areas of Malkangiri district.

Notably, the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army of Maoists have been observing the PLGA week every year since December 2, 2000, when the outlawed outfit was formed under the leadership of Kranti Ranadeb.
