Rourkela: Bus communication from here to different places of Jharkhand including Ranchi came to a grinding halt today as the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) called for a bandh in Jharkhand alleging police action against some of its cadres.

The outlawed organisation alleged that Jharkhand police has deliberately arrested some of its leaders and tortured them. The outfit warned of intensifying the agitation if their cadres are not freed at the earliest, sources said.

Following the day-long bandh, commuters of Odisha-Jharkhand border experienced a tough time as 35 buses, which regularly connect with Ranchi, Gaya,Gumla,Jamshedpur and Sasaram, stayed off the road at steel city.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the border areas like Bisra, Jareikela, K. Balanga to avoid any untoward incident. Combing operation has also been intensified by the paramilitary forces on the border.
