Bhubaneswar: After the alleged sale of plastic rice in Nuapada district, a case of fake rice has been reported from Cuttack triggerring panic among people of the Millennium City.

A family of Sheikh Bazar alleged sale of fake rice in the area. The family alleged that the taste of the rice is different and it takes a long time to cook.

"I could not eat the rice as it tasted different. I threw a handful of uncooked rice on the floor only to find that it bounced back like a plastic ball. Besides, it is catching fire," said Dilip Narayan.

"The rice doesn't emit the type of smell that normal rice releases while cooking, said another local Bhagyashree Mohapatra, adding that her husband suspected foul while eating the rice as he was aware of the availability of fake rice in the State.

Meanwhile, Cuttack collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra said that the administration has no information regarding any such sale of plastic rice in the district.

"We have no information regarding the sale of plastic rice. But we will look into the fake rice allegations as there had been news of fake rice in the State. Our food security officers along with civil supply officers and police will carry out an investigation to ascertain if plastic rice is actually in the market and collect samples," said Mishra.

Earlier, there were reports of fake rice sale in Taraboda village in Nuapada district probe into which is on.
