Rourkela: The Rourkela Additional District and Sessions Judge Court today awarded a jail term of 20 years each to five persons after convicting them in a rape case that took place near Pitamahal Dam in November 2016.

The court also ordered the five accused to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 each.

Ajay Kumar Pradhan, Additional Public Prosecutor, ADJ Court, Rourkela, said, “If the convicted persons fail to deposit the fine, they will spend another six months in jail.”

The five persons convicted under the Sec 376 (d) of the Indian Penal Code are Biranchi Majhi, Santosh Seth, Prakash Lakra, Suresh Dungdung and Kalia Oram.

The five convicts had raped a woman near Pitamahal Dam on November 16, 2016, when she and her husband of Dangirancha village in Biramitrapur were on a visit to the dam area. Later, based on a police complaint, the five were arrested by police.
