Puri: Months after photos of Srimandir interiors went viral on social media, the pictures of Lord Jagannath and his siblings were again found posted on a Facebook account.

A person identified as Sanket Mishra uploaded the pictures of the deities with a message “the real pic of Lord Jagannath at Puri temple. Made a sneak peak with the camera.” Soon after the matter came to light, the posts were found deleted from the social media account.

The incident was brought to the notice of the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) which has launched an investigation into the matter.

SJTA Public Relations Officer (PRO) Laxmi Narayan Pujapanda said the photos uploaded on Facebook were taken from Adapa Mandap of Sri Gundicha Temple, not Srimandir.

The SJTA authorities are investigating the incident and will take appropriate action against the concerned person, he added.

"We have saved these pictures and also identified the person who has done this. Action will be taken very soon after appropriate investigation," Pujapanda told OTV over phone.

In November last year, photos of Srimandir’s sanctum sanctorum had gone viral on social media after a scientist of the Dhanbad-based Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) uploaded them on his Facebook account. The scientist, who was part of a team for inspection of the 12th century shrine, had deleted his Facebook posts after drawing flak.

In December 2017, two youths, one from Pune in Maharashtra and another from Raipur in Chhattisgarh, had allegedly taken pictures inside the temple’s inner precinct and posted the same on Facebook. A case had also been registered against them.
