New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The daily revision of prices of petrol and diesel coming into effect from today in the state has drawn a lot of flak. While most people complained that this move will create confusion, many said it is a measure to cheat customers. However, a few people commended the step.

The price will be revised by a few paisa per litre everyday depending on movement of oil prices in international market and variation in foreign exchange rates. The revised rates will be implemented everyday at 6am that was earlier done at midnight.

According to a government notification earlier, the step was taken in order to benefit dealers and customers with the change in the international rates of both petrol and diesel. The revised prices will be displayed on LED screen at every petrol pump. Besides, major oil distribution companies have made arrangements to make the customers aware about oil prices through toll free number, social media posts and SMS alert.

It may be mentioned here that the revision system was implemented in five cities on pilot basis on May 1. Petrol pump owners had earlier staged agitation raising issues associated with the daily change in the rates. Their issues were sorted out after discussion with Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Meanwhile, petrol price was cut by Rs 1.12 per litre and diesel by Rs 1.24 per litre yesterday. The new rates were made effective from 6 am today.

"It will be confusing for us when the prices change daily. The prices could be changed once in a month," Abhinandan Sahoo, a Bhubaneswar resident.
