Puri: With only two days left for the Kartik Brata, to be observed from October 6 to November 4 at the Shree Jagannath Temple here, devotees have already started thronging the pilgrim town in large numbers.

In view of a few mishaps due to temporary tents last year, the Puri district administration has identified various mutts, temples and permanent structures to shelter the Habisiyalis (devotees observing the Brata), during the holy month of Kartik.

Places like Bagala Dharmasala, Mela shed, Jagannath Ballav Matha and dormitories at the railway station have been identified for sheltering around 2,000 Habisiyalis free of cost. The administration has taken steps to provide Mahaprasad in food and other Puja requirements for the devotees. Besides, police forces, fire brigade teams and round the clock health care services would be provided in these locations.

"We have made arrangements to accommodate 2000 Habisiyalis, including 1200 at Rail Yatri Niwas and 400 at Jagannath Ballav Matha. So far 1900 devotees have registered for the facilities," said an official of the Works Department.
