Bhubaneswar: Good news for artists, including child artists in the city. They can now showcase their art works anytime they want at the permanent art exhibition gallery, which would soon be set up at the premises of the Sanskruti Bhawan here.

The Lalit Kala Akademi had been urging the Culture department for setting up of a permanent art gallery since long. At a function held recently here, when Akademi president Dr Raghunath Mohapatra and secretary Tarakant Parida urged concerned director Amarendra Kumar Pattnaik for the same, the latter assured them to set up a develop such a gallery at the Sanskruti Bhavan premises soon.

The gallery would exhibit art works on a daily basis. The Lalit Kala Akademi has a collection of various paintings of both junior and senior artists and of late artists like Dr Dinanath Pathy. Those art works will also be put on display the gallery. Besides, common artists can also use the space on rent for displaying their works for a longer time.

The gallery will be housed in the new three-storey building of the Sanskruti Bhavan at Kalpana Square.
Currently there are six art galleries in the capital city. They are at the Lalit Kala Akademi regional centre, at the state museum, at the Buddha Jayanti Park, Odisha Modern Art Gallery, Subhadra Art Gallery and Gallery OIC. This will be the seventh art gallery in the city to feature paintings.

While it is not possible to hold painting exhibition at the existing art galleries on a daily basis, the proposed art gallery would encourage common artists to showcase their talents.
“We had been urging the Culture department for the permanent art gallery for exhibition. The department has assured to set up the gallery at the Sanskruti Bhavan premises. But no official formalities have begun yet.”
