Bhubaneswar: The people of Odisha witnessed the Super Moon (November’s full Beaver Moon), a rare celestial phenomenon this evening after 68 years.

Talking to media persons here, Subhendu Patnaik, deputy director, Pathani Samanta Planetarium, Bhubaneswar, said the November's super moon is a term used to describe a full moon when it is at its perigee or closest point to Earth during the lunar orbit.

“The Super Moon which was visible today is 14 percent larger and nearly 30 percent brighter than what we usually witness during general full moon days as it was closest to the Earth’s orbit at a distance of 48,280 km,” he added.

This full moon was not only the closest and brightest supermoon of 2016 but also the largest since 1948. The full moon will not come this close to Earth again until November 25, 2034.
