Bhubaneswar: Medical services have been partly affected following demonstration by employees at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Nearly 1,700 employees reportedly staged a dharna demanding hike in salary and bonus.

According to employees, the hospital authorities had arbitrarily considerably reduced their bonus and have not increased the salary since long.

The agitation by the hospital employees had created much problems for the patients and their attendants today.

“This year the authorities have released bonus which is much less than what was given in the last two years. The employees are made to work for much less salary with yearly increment of only 8 percent which is creating problems for us,” said Sasishar Sethi, an employee.

Though the employees union had discussed such discrepancies in bonus and salary with the hospital authorities last year, no concrete measures were undertaken to resolve such issues, alleged the hospital staff.

Radhakant Majhi, general secretary of hospital employees union informed that the authorities were earlier asked not to deduct bonus without proper consultation with staff. However, as the management did not pay any heed, the employees today staged the demonstration.
