Bhubaneswar: The death of a patient allegedly due negligence in treatment sparked off tension at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Protesting against misbehaviour shown towards the deceased patient Nandakishore Pradhan's relatives and other attendants by doctor and other hospital staff, locals staged a demonstration in front of the hospital on Sunday.

According to reports, Nandakishore Pradhan of Chotraipur was rushed to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar after he complained of chest pain late on Saturday night.

Family members alleged that instead of providing timely treatment and oxygen, the doctor and staff misbehaved and assaulted them.

Following the incident, a complaint in connection with the incident has been lodged by deceased Nandakishore's family at Khandagiri police station.

The locals are demanding for compensation for the family members of the deceased and an apology from the doctor and other staff involved in the brawl.

Keeping in view palpable tension, police force has been deployed at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar to maintain law and order.

Senior officials of Commissionerate police informed that the body has been sent for post mortem while the CCTV footage will also be reviewed for necessary action in connection with the incident.

AIIMS director Gitanjali B said, "The CCTV footage of the hospital is being examined and action will be taken against those found guilty.
