Bhubaneswar: DGP RP Sharma took the salute at the passing out parade of the first batch of DSP-rank officers at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA) here on Wednesday.

As many as 13 DSPs and 97 SIs, passing out of the academy, took oath to serve the nation till their last breath.

"The passing out parade of first batch of DSPs, appointed under direct recruitment nearly after 40 years, and 97 Sub Inspector (Armed) cadets, in total 110 officers was held. They did an impressive parade," said Sharma, who was the Chief Guest at the event.

"The training of DSPs was as tough as the training curriculum of the Sub Inspectors, Deputy Subedars and Sergeants. Rather they received a bit more training including the commando course, Anti-Extremists Tactics," said Director of BPSPA, Manoj Kumar Chhabra.

After taking the salute the DGP said that the academy will be turned into a centre of excellence and selected trainers will be roped in from Telangana, Punjab and Maharashtra police to build it as the finest in the nation.

However, BPSPA's Director Chhabra said extension of the academy is not possible due to lack of land.
