Bhubaneswar: Bus service from Puri to the twin cities and other places of the state came to a grinding halt today as private bus staffs of Puri staged a cease-work stir causing hardship to large number of daily commuters.

The Nilagiri Motor Employees Association resorted to the strike protesting torture on a Puri bus staff at the Cuttack bus terminal a few days ago. While around 300 buses ply to different places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela,Nayagarh, Daspalla, Puruna Patna and Nirakarpur, the bus strike today left hundreds of passengers stranded in the pilgrim town. A few OSRTC buses plied only to the capital city.

The bus staff alleged that they are facing a lot of inconvenience due to a spat between the bus owners of Puri and Cuttack. The bus owners are not taking any initiative for the safety of their staff, rued a driver. Meanwhile, police detained 20 agitating bus drivers.
