New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Bittihotra Mohanty, son of former DGP Bidya Bhusan Mohanty, was today released from jail after the Rajasthan High Court granted relief to him in the parole jumping case.

After the Supreme Court granted conditional bail to Bittihotra in the German young woman rape case on March 31, he could not be released from the Jaipur Central jail as the parole jumping case was subjudice.

Sarthak Nayak, Bitti’s counsel, said, “We had moved an application in the Rajasthan HC and the parole jumping case is disposed leading to his release from the Jaipur central jail.”

He further stated Bitti has to visit the Cantonment police station in Cuttack whenever he will be asked to.

Following conviction in the German lady rape case, Bitti was lodged in the Jaipur central jail. However, he did not return to the jail after a parole for 15 days was granted to visit his ailing mother in November 2006.

Later Bitti was arrested by the Kerala police on March 2013 when he was working as a probationary officer in the State Bank of Travancore on a fake identity.
