Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today flagged off specially-designed vehicles named 'Paree Express' as part of a 15-day awareness campaign 'Paree Pain Katha Tiye' against child sexual abuse.

The 15 specially-designed vehicles will roll across the State and spread awareness on rising incidents of sexual assaults against minor girls and women.

The logo and theme song of the campaign were unveiled at the State Police Headquarters here on Sunday.

Addressing the event CM Naveen said, "I am happy to flag off Paree Express that will go for a 15-day awareness campaign against child sexual abuse. The State Government has taken a number of initiatives to check such heinous crimes. I thank UNICEF and Odisha Police and wish for the success of the campaign."

"We have always tried to protect girl children and women in the State. I hope the mega campaign will be a success," said DGP RP Sharma during the event.

During its halt in various vulnerable pockets across 30 districts of the State, the ‘Paree Express’ equipped with LED screens and projectors will play audio-visuals on women’s safety and sensitise people about various stringent laws to deal with sexual abuse. Leaflets and other printed materials will also be distributed during the drive. Each van would cover two districts. All the vehicles will converge in Bhubaneswar on June 12 for the valedictory function.

The programme is an initiative of Odisha Police and UNICEF is the technical collaborative partner in the campaign.
