Berhampur: As widely suspected, the suicide note of Ananga Manjari Patra, the former manager of Parala king Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deb, and her two siblings has named local Congress MLA K Surya Rao, some political leaders cutting across party lines and an Odia TV channel holding them responsible for their deaths, Crime Branch sources said.

While the names of the political leaders have not been disclosed by the officials, CB sources said they belong to all three major parties: BJP, Congress and the ruling BJD.

“The note has blamed all of them for their untimely death,” an official on condition of anonymity said.

“The attempt to tarnish their images and defame them forced them to take the extreme step,” the official quoted the deceased siblings as saying in the note.

The family was humiliated in public as local politicians launched an agitation demanding a probe into the financial transactions of the king, including his property deals.

Rao, who headed the Maharaja Surakhya Committee that launched the agitation, is facing allegations of abetment to suicide after Amulya Patra, another brother of Ananga Manjari, filed a case with the local police. Refuting the allegations, however, Rao said it was his duty as the local legislator to safeguard the interest of Parala Maharaja.

The CB officials are likely to interrogate all political leaders whose names figured in the suicide note of Patra and others.

Meanwhile, the probe into the mysterious death of four so far has revealed that the king was not under house arrest as alleged by the local protesters.
Besides, the post mortem report, which the police received today, said three of them had consumed poison while the fourth sibling died due to asphyxiation.
