Bhubaneswar:  A Paradeep-Cuttack goods train jumped the rails between Goraknath and Raghunathpur early this morning. However, no casualty has been reported in the accident.

The accident occurred at around 5.55 am.

According to sources, the train was plying towards Cuttack carrying coal from Paradeep. Around 14 open wagons loaded with imported coal derailed on down line near Banabihari Gwalipur PH Railway Station, 45 km from Cuttack and 38 km from Paradeep.

As per latest reports, one of the two lines is free for passage of trains whereas the affected line is expected to be restored by tomorrow. Meanwhile, relief trains have been sought from Khurda Road and Sambalpur to carry out the rescue operation, said an official of the East Coast Railways (ECoR).

General Manager Umesh Singh has ordered the Khurda Road Division to set up an inquiry committee and submit a detailed report. “All aspects of the accident, circumstances and reasons, including fixing up of clear responsibility for the accident, should be mentioned in the inquiry report,” he said.

Khurda Road DRM Braj Mohan Agarwal, who has been entrusted with the task to form the inquiry committee, reached the site and inspected damages to the wagons and track. He said 12 of the 14 wagons will be removed from the track with the help of cranes while the rest two will be re-railed on the track.
